Visa hunt begins

Today my wife and I sat down to figure out everything we need to collect for her spousal visa application for the UK. We've known for a while what we need to sort out but it's been good to put it down on paper and get ready to cross everything off as soon as possible. Looking at the list we can get most of the things quite easily though one or two will take more time and effort.

The application needs to be perfect otherwise we will probably either need an interview or worst case scenario is that the application to be turned down. The cost of applying for the visa right now is 1.35million won which is roughly £750 or $1,200. If the application were to be rejected we would need to pay the same just to apply again.

The chances are if your application were rejected over anything substantive there would be little purpose to applying again without any material change in your circumstances.

But if your application is rejected initially don't lose hope - you have the right of appeal - first with the Embassy (largely pointless) and then to an immigration tribunal - which is how we won our case eventually.

Sadly ECOs can't be relied upon to exercise sound judgement or even act within the law so it can be a bit of a lottery.

It sounds like you're very organised with it anyway so I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck.

Thanks for the good luck message.

We're trying to be as organised as possible and have an application which would be hard to turn down.

In theory I think we will have enough to be successful but as you're relying on someone elses judgement and permission then you can never be 100% sure.

Hi,
My husband and I had to go through a visa application process with the U.S. We followed their instructions very carefully and prepared all the documents perfectly, but we were told to get three other documents that were not on the list. Mainly, they wanted to see whether we would not receive public assistance after entering the States. It took us 7 months to get a visa.

Well, this was with the U.S. I hope that your visa process goes well with Britain.

By the way, I have been enjoying reading your blog and thank you for sharing your stories.

I work with someone who is currently applying for a U.S. visa so I know how hard it is to get that one. The UK one is very different and the process takes far less time though.

My one fear is that we don't have enough documents. But, I think we will have. We will not need public assitance - i.e. government aid via money. I also will have written proff from a relative that we can live with them if we need to.

Thank you for reading my blog and I wish you and your husband well for your future,

Gavin
